About the Brexit

On 1 January 2021, the United Kingdom formally left the European Union. This means that the free movement of people, goods and services between the UK and the EU has ended.

It’s important for travellers to understand their new rights and the new immigration laws now in force in the EU and the UK.

Entering the United Kingdom

As a British passport holder, the new rules don’t affect your rights to enter or return to the UK.

For more information, visit www.gov.uk/transition.

If you are a European or Swiss citizen, or a member of the European Economic Area (EEA), the rules have changed on 1 January 2021 and you may need to apply for a visa to enter or remain in the United Kingdom.
If you were living in the UK by 31 December 2021, you can apply to the EU Settlement Scheme if you meet the criteria.

For more information, visit www.gov.uk/transition and check if you need a UK visa at www.gov.uk/check-uk-visa.

If you are not a British, European or Swiss citizen nor a member of the European Economic Area (EEA), the rules remain the same and you might need to hold a valid visa or apply for a new visa to enter the United Kingdom.

For more information, visit www.gov.uk/transition and check if you need a UK visa at www.gov.uk/check-uk-visa.
