Airports Vanuatu is pleased to announce the third batch of covid-19 vaccinations was received today at Port Vila Airport.
Airports Vanuatu’s support for Vanuatu’s Vaccination Programme
Our freight team at Vanuatu Terminal Services (VTS) again played a critical role in receiving and processing the freight delivery of 20,000 doses of Astra Zeneca, which arrived from Australia. This delivery compliments the previous donation of vaccines from Australia, which have formed the basis of our initial vaccine role out. To date 8% of Vanuatu’s population have received their first vaccine, and this delivery enables the Ministry of Health to continue the vaccine roll out.
Jason Rakau, CEO of Airports Vanuatu commented, “I am proud to say nearly 9 out of 10 Port Vila Airport staff have received their first vaccine dose (87%). That our staff at VTS and AVL are able to contribute to the critical national vaccine roll out programme makes me very proud. I continue to advocate strongly for vaccination. Given the nature of our business and our responsibility as a company to safeguard and protect our staff and our nation, I feel all Ni-Vanuatu should be vaccinated”.

Global vaccination tracking
Airports Vanuatu is actively monitoring the global roll out of vaccinations. Analysis indicates that to date 8% of Vanuatu’s population has received their first vaccine. Rowland Kalsong, Group Head of Operations commented, “Our analysis of countries worldwide illustrates our vaccination rate is tracking well alongside our neighbours, Australia and New Zealand. The Cook Islands leads our region, where 62% of the population has received at least their first vaccine dose. We continue to monitor the global vaccination programme, as high vaccination rates are likely to be one of the benchmarks governments set, before making the decision to open borders. Airports Vanuatu welcomes the additional 20,000 vaccine doses, in enabling the vaccine programme to continue”.
